# Vehicle models: credits and licences

The traffic cars, the police cars, the taxi and the SERT armoured truck are built from Sketchfab models.
Each one's licence was checked on its Sketchfab page (2026-10-06): all of them are **CC BY 4.0** (Creative Commons
Attribution), so they may be used commercially as long as the creators are credited. The game shows every make and
model under a made-up parody name, so the models are listed here by a plain description.

They were **modified** for the game by `tools/import_cars.py`:
- scaled to the real length, and hidden parts and interiors removed
- simplified to about 40k triangles, with material borders and small parts kept
- colours taken straight from the models' own materials
- body paint made recolourable
- wheels rebuilt as round tyres showing each model's own rim
- the police and taxi versions given their liveries, light bar and roof sign
- the tray ute made from the dual-cab ute (`tools/workmate.py`): the cab shortened to a single cab, the tub replaced by
  an aluminium tray with a headboard and ladder racks built for the game, steel wheels, black front bumper
- maker badges removed (`DEBADGE` / `CAPS` in `tools/import_cars.py`): the makers' emblems on grilles, noses, boot lids
  and tailgates, the model lettering and grade badges, and the logos on the wheels' centre caps
- fault fixes: number plates in their real places and standing clear of the body, the dual-cab ute's arch lips made
  part of the recolourable paint, the sedan's arch liners and plate holder, the van's headlamp covers, wheel-arch
  liners kept whole; the dual-cab ute brought into the ~46k-triangle budget
- optional ute fit-outs built for the game: a tonneau cover, an alloy toolbox or a ladder rack on the dual cabs, an
  alloy toolbox on the tray ute

**Notes**
- **Liveries:** the police livery (`assets/qps-reference/qps_livery.png`) and the taxi decals (`tools/liveries/`) are original drawings made for this game. They carry no official crest or company name (`CREST` in `tools/make_qps_textures.py`, `WORDMARK` in `tools/liveries/make_liveries.py`): the police cars keep their chequers, POLICE, keylines, HIGHWAY PATROL and 1800 333 000; the cab keeps its pinstripe, roof sign and 13 10 08.
- **The Brisbane bus** (`assets/scania_bus.glb`) is BusLab's textured city bus model. `tools/scania_livery.py` paints the maker's wordmark, the CleanAir wordmarks and the council crest / TransInfo strip out of its texture (the yellow, white and blue livery and its kite graphics stay) and lays the per-bus route displays and fleet numbers over it (`assets/bus_signs.json`, `src/bus-signs.js`). The untouched model is kept in `tools/bus_src/scania_bus_src.glb`.
- **Trademarks:** real vehicle makes, models and badges belong to their owners; the game uses none of them. This is a fan-made game, not an official product.
- **Source files:** the original downloads are kept in `tools/cars_src/` so the conversion can be re-run. An earlier set of three electric-car models by ddiaz-design was CC BY-NC-SA (non-commercial); those are not used and are kept apart in `tools/cars_src/_unused_ncsa/`.
